Groningen is accelerating fast where this concerns energy and sustainability. The local council has expressed a desire to be CO2-neutral by 2035, and increasingly more companies and citizens are joining us in our ambition. The major companies have come together in the groningenenergieneutraal.nl platform, actively working on making their operations and environment more sustainable. Much of the employment in this field can be found in existing companies and less so in the entirely new companies in the energy sector.
Many things have been developed and introduced regarding energy and sustainability in education over the past few years. The most energy efficient centre of education in the Netherlands can be found at the Zernike complex: the Energy Academy Europe. In collaboration with Entrance and many other new courses of study, new energy and sustainability professionals are today being trained and educated at all levels. And there will be plenty to keep them occupied, as the energy and sustainability sector is only set to continue expanding in the coming years.
